He looked up and turned his head to me, his muzzle muddy. “Uh…digging?”

It was really my own damn fault. A wolf was close enough to a dog and you didn’t let a dog dig a vegetable garden. I stood next to him and rubbed the back of my head. “Yeah. That’s not quite what I meant. I meant, you know, turn the earth over…to make it ready for planting.”

Bron looked around at his holes. “You could plant trees,” he suggested.

“Trees. Like in the forest? Right there?” I made a grand gesture with my hand to the nearby mass of trees.
